NEW for June 2023. Poynton Festival

A new festival celebrating Cheshire arts and culture.

An introduction from the Poynton Festival Working Group - John Waterhouse

“I had been thinking for a while about the possibility of staging a Poynton Festival, potentially on similar lines to those of other festivals held annually such as in Bollington and Macclesfield.

On 20th June 2022, Poynton Town Council’s FIED Committee gave the authorisation for the setting up of a Working Group to fine tune the set-up and organisation of a festival in Poynton.

Local organisations and businesses have been contacted with a view to ascertaining what facilities and/or events have been considered at this stage.

Several organisations including bars, schools, churches and social clubs have already expressed an interest in hosting festival events.

Several contributors have also expressed their interest in being part of a Poynton Festival, from theatre companies to solo performers, even including a dog obedience demonstration.

If you are interested in being part of Poynton Festival as either a performer, venue host or volunteer please contact the group."

Cllr John Waterhouse

A provisional outline schedule for the festival may be as follows:

Sunday 25th June ’23 – a launch event/party,  either at 2.00pm on the afternoon or 8.00pm in the evening; formal opening.

Monday 26th – Thursday 29th June ’23 – evening events at various locations around Poynton either by visiting artists or local groups. This might perhaps be, for example, a visiting theatre company coming to PBC or a music event at the Acoustic Lounge.

Friday 30th (evening) through to Sunday 2nd July – the main festival with various events by both local organisations and visiting artists across a varied range of venues around Poynton.

Sunday 2nd  July 8.00pm – closing party event

Christmas Fest (December)

The event is a partnership between Poynton Town Council and the community which aims to bring residents together to start Poynton’s seasonal celebrations, support local businesses and provides an opportunity for community groups and organisations to showcase what they do. Poynton Town Council provides funding for the event and a dedicated group of volunteers from Projects4Poynton meet for many months beforehand to make the event happen.

Annually on the first Tuesday in December, Park Lane is closed to vehicles from 7pm - 9pm allowing for a pedestrian only area to become the venue for the festivities. Visitors enjoy more comfortable access local businesses, eateries and seasonal activities. It’s a great opportunity to pick up an early Christmas present, spend the evening listening to music played by local bands and carols sung by local choirs to set the mood with the seasonal fayre on offer provided by Poynton’s local eateries.
