Springboard Poynton – Music For All

Springboard proved to be a wonderful opportunity for everyone to come together over one weekend to give the people of Poynton a musical feast. Virtually everyone (that’s almost 600 performers at 16 venues) was from Poynton or belonged to Poynton-based groups.

The Springboard team is indebted to the main sponsors of the event – Peaks and Plains Housing Trust, Sidney Jackson Ford, and the Town Council. Generous contributions were also received from the St George’s Singers, Sublime Hair Studio, and Poynton Osteopathic Clinic and Natural Therapy Centre. 1st Poynton Scouts provided invaluable help on the main day of the event; and thanks are also due to the many venues which went the extra mile to support the festival. A big ‘thank you’ also go to Mates and the Civic Hall staff who sold advance tickets, and to all the groups and individuals who kindly offered their services.

Springboard was a non-profit making event, with the surplus going to Springboard’s and the Town Mayor’s charity, the National Eczema Society. The amount raised will be made known soon.

Brecon Play Area Closure

Although the start was delayed, the contractor is now on site to refurbish the Brecon (Fire Station) play area. The work was due to have been completed by Friday 10th October, although the delayed start (and the weather!) might have put this back by a few days. Please note that the park will be closed for the duration of the work. As well as the play equipment being replaced and refurbished, there will be other smaller improvements being carried out, such as the installation of bike racks, signage etc.

Hospital Review

Healthier Together are reviewing health and care in Greater Manchester and looking at how to provide the best care for you and your family. They want to take out the variations in the quality of care across Greater Manchester and believe by doing this can save more lives. They are currently asking for your views on hospitals across Greater Manchester, with the consultation asking which of the hospitals on the ‘undecided’ list below you think should be a specialist hospital:

  • Wythenshawe Hospital
  • Stepping Hill Hospital
  • Royal Albert Edward Infirmary (Wigan)
  • Bolton Royal Hospital

This consultation will affect the services that are delivered from Wythenshawe Hospital and/or Stepping Hill Hospital, hospitals we know are important to the community in Eastern Cheshire. If you or your family have used these hospitals please visit the website for more information.

Walkers are Welcome

The national ‘Walkers are Welcome’ organisation is participating in this year's Bollington Walking Festival in late October. They are keen to attract walkers from local towns who are likely to be interested in meeting up with like-minded people and discuss local topics and walking issues of common interest.

The ‘Walkers are Welcome’ walk is on Monday 20th October, and the meeting point is at 10.15 am at the Bridgend Centre on Palmerston Road. The walk is 7 miles long so a packed lunch is advised. The walk takes in the Canal, the Middlewood Way and splendid views from Bakestonedale Moor. It will be followed by refreshments at the Bridgend Centre and an informal update on ‘Walkers are Welcome’.
