Draft Town Strategy for Poynton : Consultation Now Open

This important public consultation, which will help shape Poynton’s future for at least the next 20 years, started on 31st August, and runs to 1st October 2012. The Town Council has a stock of the draft Town Strategy document and questionnaire at the Civic Hall, plus a box in which to post your completed questionnaire.

These documents are also available from the library next door. If you would prefer to complete the questionnaire on line please go to www.cheshireeast.gov.uk/localplan. There will be regular reminders throughout the consultation period, since the Town Council wants as many Poynton residents as possible to give their views. Please help pass the word to friends and family.

Our Local 2012 Champions

Hearty congratulations go to two ex-students of Poynton High School who competed in the London 2012 Games. Daniel Pepper and Sarah Storey both competed in the Paralympic Games. Daniel took part in the swimming and managed to reach the final in both his competitions.

Sarah Storey achieved an amazing four gold medals for cycling, making her Britain’s most successful female Paralympian, honoured with 4 golden post boxes, including one on Yew Tree Lane in Poynton. She was then given the huge accolade of representing Britain as a flagbearer, along with wheelchair racer David Weir, in the closing ceremony of the Paralympic Games. We wish both Dan and Sarah every success in their future sporting careers, and are sure that their achievements will have been a huge inspiration to others.

Development of the Woodford Aerodrome Site

Following BAE Systems’ sale of the Woodford Aerodrome site, Stockport Council is finalising a draft Supplementary Planning Document (SPD). This will provide guidance for the future development of the site, which will clearly have an impact on Poynton. This draft SPD will be the subject of a statutory six week consultation, which is now open, with a closing date of Monday 15th October 2012.

During this consultation period you are also invited to have your say on the draft SPD at special public events at the Woodford Community Centre on Chester Road, Woodford. The first of these took place on Friday 7th September, and the remaining session is from 10am to 3pm on Saturday 29th September 2012.

The Town Council would urge residents to make your views known by attending these events and/or have your say on the draft SPD.

Clifford Road Narrowing

The Town Council will formally review its position on this issue at a council meeting at 8pm on Monday 17th September. Residents are welcome to attend.

It is important to note that the road narrowing undertaken by Cheshire East Council near the junction of Clifford Road and London Road South is what is known as an Experimental Traffic Regulation Order.

A decision will need to be made by Cheshire East Council in due course whether to make this a permanent feature.

Anyone with views for or against the scheme should make them known in writing before 1st December 2012. Views and comments should be sent by e-mail to cheshireeasttraffic@cheshireeast.gov.uk. Alternatively send or hand in any letters to the Town Clerk (Poynton Civic Hall, off Park Lane, Poynton, SK12 1RB), and they will be forwarded to the relevant department at Cheshire East.

Men In Sheds for Poynton

The response to the drop-in event that took place at the Civic Hall on Saturday 1st September was very encouraging. The Town Council is still keen to hear from anyone who was perhaps not able to attend that event, but who would like to get involved in a Poynton for a ‘Men In Sheds’ project. Please phone or e-mail the Town Clerk – T. 01625 872238, Liz.Osborn@poyntontowncouncil.gov.uk

Community Grants from Cheshire East

It is worth reminding our local voluntary organisations again about this potential source of funds. Grants are available for events (up to £250), for activities (up to £500) facilities (up to £3,000) and, more recently, for neighbourhood planning (£250 to £500). The deadline for the next round of applications is 28th September 2012.
