Showcase of Services

To celebrate the UN Older Person’s Day the Town Council has organised a Showcase of Services at the Civic Hall from 10am to 4pm on Friday 3rd October 2014. To promote and encourage independent living and wellbeing, a range of representatives from the voluntary sector, charities, community groups, statutory groups, and local businesses will be on hand to offer advice and support. Local MP David Rutley will be attending, and refreshments will also be available.

Poynton Relief Road

Land access requests to landowners along the proposed routes of the Poynton Relief Road have been made to enable initial winter ecology surveys to be undertaken within the next week, and these will take approximately 4 weeks. The ecology surveys as a whole will take approximately 12 months. The surveys will be predominantly visual, low impact and non-intrusive and help inform the detail of any proposals.

Failed Pavement at 32 Park Lane

The Town Council has received a number of resident reports regarding a sunken section of pavement by 32 Park Lane (Belle Mariee Bridal Boutique). This issue has been reported to Cheshire East Council for some time and they are seeking a proper reinstatement from the utility company who originally excavated the pavement. Residents are encouraged to report this issue directly to Cheshire East. Details of how to do this appear in the ‘Reporting Complaints’ section of our website.

Walkers are Welcome

The national ‘Walkers are Welcome’ organisation is participating in this year's Bollington Walking Festival in late October. They are keen to attract walkers from local towns who are likely to be interested in meeting up with like-minded people and discuss local topics and walking issues of common interest.

The ‘Walkers are Welcome’ walk is on Monday 20th October, and the meeting point is at 10.15am at the Bridgend Centre on Palmerston Road. The walk is 7 miles long so a packed lunch is advised. The walk takes in the Canal, the Middlewood Way and splendid views from Bakestonedale Moor. It will be followed by refreshments at the Bridgend Centre and an informal update on ‘Walkers are Welcome’.

Hospital Review

Healthier Together are reviewing health and care in Greater Manchester and looking at how to provide the best care for you and your family. They want to take out the variations in the quality of care across Greater Manchester and believe by doing this can save more lives. They are currently asking for your views on hospitals across Greater Manchester, with the consultation asking which of the hospitals on the ‘undecided’ list below you think should be a specialist hospital:

  • Wythenshawe Hospital
  • Stepping Hill Hospital
  • Royal Albert Edward Infirmary (Wigan)
  • Bolton Royal Hospital

This consultation will affect the services that are delivered from Wythenshawe Hospital and/or Stepping Hill Hospital, hospitals we know are important to the community in Eastern Cheshire. If you or your family have used these hospitals please visit the website for more information.

For more information on Healthier Together and the options please visit their website

Christmas Trees Wanted!

Following the success of last year’s donated Christmas trees at Fountain Place and outside the Civic Hall, the Town Council is appealing to residents who may have a suitable tree in their garden that has perhaps grown too big, and which they would be happy to donate.

Ideally Norway Spruce are sought and the full cost of removing approved trees would be borne by the Town Council. If you have something suitable, please contact Richard Holland on 01625 872238 or reception@poyntontowncouncil.gov.uk to arrange a site visit.

Annual Garden Waste Collection Shutdown (green bins)

The Cheshire East consultation on this issue, seeking views on the timing and duration of the green bin ‘shutdown’ for the winter of 2014/15, has now closed, and the results published. The shutdown will last for 12 weeks, starting at the beginning of December 2014 and re-starting in mid-February 2015. Precise information will take the form of bin stickers and announcements via the local media.

Ranger Events

For details of all other Ranger events please call T. 01625 383700 or go to the Rangers website www.cheshireeast.gov.uk/leisure,_culture_and_tourism/ranger_service/ranger_events.aspx. For those residents without access to a PC, printed copies of the monthly Ranger programmes can be had on request from the Civic Hall.

Attention all cyclists!

Poynton was recently visited by Allison Duncan, a postgraduate student from America’s Portland State University who is working on a research dissertation on how cyclists treat busy intersections, intersection design and associated issues. There follow links to two surveys regarding Poynton’s shared space junction/Fountain Place and the Woodford roundabout (as a ‘control/comparison site).

Allison has asked if cyclists who use one or both of these junctions would kindly complete these surveys, and also pass them on to other interested parties. Her contact details are given in an explanatory note at the beginning of each survey.

Civic Hall Roof

The Civic Hall roof will be totally refurbished, with scaffolding work having commenced earlier this month. This job is likely to take up to 12 weeks. The contractor site will be to the rear of the Civic Hall, and although there will be scaffolding around the building, this work should not disrupt normal business.

The Town Council would only ask that you take care when entering, leaving or are in the vicinity of the building while the work is ongoing.
