Lights Out In Poynton
Residents will be aware that certain sections of the highway in and around Poynton, including a long section of London Road North , are no longer lit at night. This is a Cheshire East initiative which, according to their website is “part of efforts to slash carbon emissions, cut down on light pollution, save money and make Cheshire East a cleaner and greener place to live”. The Town Council was given no notice of these changes to its street lighting, and is seeking urgent clarification from Cheshire East Council. It is also insisting that no lights be removed until an independent body has conducted a cost-benefit analysis after a 12 month period has elapsed.
Poynton Bus Services
Thanks to the timely intervention of the Town Council, the existing Poynton bus services will continue until at least 4th March 2013. Meanwhile, following the recent Cheshire East Council consultation on bus subsidies, a tendering process for Poynton bus services has been initiated. We will keep residents informed of developments
Arrangements are well in hand for Poynton’s 6th Christmas Fest on Tuesday 4th December, when Park Lane will be closed from 7pm to 9pm. We have just had confirmation that Dan Pepper, Poynton’s Paralympic swimmer, will be on hand to help open the event at 7pm from the first floor balcony of the Tarantella Restaurant, with support from the Town Mayor and Father Christmas. There will be entertainment throughout, both from the Imagine FM stage outside Mates as well as at various points on Park Lane . This includes dance groups, the Concert Band and the Samba band from the High School, the St George’s Singers, ‘Flute Pastilles’, the Explosive dance group, community carol singing, ‘Tuba Smarties’ (a brass ensemble), a dance display by Ceroc and street entertainers ‘Artemis’ and ‘Bread and Butter’.
There will also be a children’s roundabout towards the bottom of Park Lane, Round Table’s Father Christmas, and a Poynton fire engine on show, and a number of local voluntary organisations will have stands on Park Lane . Our retailers are all being encouraged to create window displays, which will be judged on Monday 3rd December, and the winner announced at the Fest.
Woodland on the Inclines
A drop-in session was held for those residents whose houses border the Inclines on Saturday morning 17th November. This was well-attended, and the Town Council’s future strategy on the maintenance of Incline trees was explained, with assistance from Mike Ellison of Cheshire Woodlands, and Adam Lawson of Swift Tree Services. Nigel Bates, Cheshire East’s Trees Officer was also there. To better understand the views and concerns of the residents concerned, as well those who use the Inclines, a survey will be launched in the New Year.

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service
Cheshire Fire Authority is the publically accountable body, which manages the fire and rescue service on behalf of local people.
The Authority has now published its annual plan, the draft Integrated Risk Management Plan (IRMP), for 2013/14 and the years beyond, and a comprehensive 12 week consultation was launched on 24 September, which runs until 17th December 2012. This draft plan is the most significant in the Fire Authority’s 15 year history, as it sets out a number of far-reaching proposals, which have been developed so that it can maintain and improve the services it provides to the local community and make most effective use of its reduced funding.
The proposals would help the Service to meet expected budget cuts of around £5 million over the next four years, but will take a number of years to implement. You can access a summary of the plans, as well as supporting material and a full copy of the IRMP 2013-14 through visiting the website: www.cheshirefire.gov.uk/home/current-consultation. You can also complete a resident survey on the plans.
Equally, any written submissions on the proposals are welcome, and can be sent to; Communication and Engagement Officer, Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service, Sadler Road, Winsford, Cheshire CW7 2FQ
