Poynton Heritage Garden

The garden situated between the Civic Hall, Library and Priorslegh Medical Centre was the successful transformation of what was a little used public area into a colourful and tranquil space.

IMPORTANT: Shared Space Remedials

London Road North, South and Chester Road around Shared Space zone – the previous contractor will be carrying out extensive remedial work to sunken/damaged granite block setts, slabs and kerbs from Thursday 31st July to Friday 5th September 2014.

Multi-way traffic signals will be in operation and although this work is being carried out during the school holidays, traffic disruption will be inevitable, especially during peak periods.

Springboard Poynton – Music For All

Musical Notes DrawingA varied and exciting programme is already in place for this launch event, over the long weekend of Friday evening 26th September to Sunday 28th September 2014, with most venues and performers now confirmed.

This will be a community event with many different types of music to suit all tastes and ages. Please make a note of this weekend in your calendars and diaries, and come along to the Springboard information stand at the Poynton Show on 23rd August and/or visit the new event website www.poyntonspringboard.com to learn more. Mayoral Visits

The Worshipful the Mayor and Mayoress of Cheshire East, Councillor Wesley Fitzgerald and Mrs Joan Fitzgerald would be pleased to visit any charity or voluntary organisation within the Borough of Cheshire East to help raise the profile of the organisation and support any project or initiative that they are promoting. Superfast Fibre Broadband in Poynton

Connecting Cheshire Superfast Broadband LogoThe £28.5m Connecting Cheshire Partnership has announced that its new fibre-optic network - bringing speeds of up to 80 megabits per second (Mbps) - is now becoming available from the Poynton telephone exchange as part of its roll-out to more than 80,000 additional homes and businesses across Cheshire.

Check the Connecting Cheshire website to see if your home or business can be upgraded and then contact your Internet Service Provider or shop around for the best deal and order a fibre broadband service - it doesn’t happen automatically! www.connectingcheshire.org.uk Connecting Cheshire, a partnership between BT and Cheshire West and Chester, Cheshire East, Halton and Warrington Councils, aims to reach an additional 80,000 homes and businesses with fibre broadband.

This is in addition to BT’s commercial investment in fibre across Cheshire, Halton and Warrington so that by the end of 2015 a total of 400,000 premises (around 96%) will have access to high-speed broadband.

A local resident, Lisa Painter, is helping to coordinate community events to commemorate the 100 year anniversary of the start of the First World War. Would any local organisation, group or society interested in marking the commemoration in some way please contact Lisa via e-mail harleylisa1963@gmail.com, or on M. 07890 601081.

You might also want to contact Lisa to get information on events already planned. These include two performances of ‘Silent Night’, an original and moving play with music that tells of the amazing events surrounding the Christmas truce during the First World War. Performed by Theatre in the Quarter and sponsored by the Town Council and the High School, this will be staged at Poynton High School at 7.30pm on 27th and 28th November 2014. More information will follow nearer the time.

A6 to Manchester Airport Relief Road

Stockport Council has made it known that the Secretary of State for Local Government and Communities has decided not to call in the A6 to Manchester Airport Relief Road scheme for a Planning Public Inquiry, so planning permission granted by the three local authorities concerned is confirmed. See further detail here: www.stockport.gov.uk/newsroom/Planningpermission?view=Standard. There will however be associated Inquiries on the Side Road Orders and Compulsory Purchase Orders. These will be held at Cheshire Conference & Events (Stockport County FC), Edgeley Park, Stockport, SK3 9DD on 30th September 2014.

It is important to point out that the Poynton Relief Road is a separate project not connected with this decision, and was recently subject to a public consultation on the route options and associated improvements to the A523
