In 2006 a small group of people put together a vision for our community under the title “Poynton with Worth Parish Plan”. Parish Plans are a Government-supported initiative aimed at giving residents a way of deciding for themselves how they would like their communities to develop over the coming years.

With just a handful of residents giving of their own free time these volunteers sought to influence and successfully bring about a number of changes. In the Parish Plan as published the chapter headings were: A Safer Village; Youth Engagement; Traffic & Transport; The Village Aspect; and Community Life and Accommodation.

A community questionnaire that informed much of the Plan highlighted the need to breathe fresh life back into Poynton’s retail sector, and this led ultimately to the Poynton Village Revitalisation Scheme, based on the concept of Shared Space.

Among other initiatives involving the Parish Plan Group has been Poynton’s Christmas Fest, now a firm part of the community’s social calendar, organised solely by members of the Group.

Time has moved on and so has the direction for this Group. Recently rebranded as ‘Projects 4 Poynton’, it has changed its focus to initiating and supporting others in specific projects and events that seek to improve and enhance community life in Poynton. The continuation of events such as the Christmas Fest as well as the start of further new and exciting projects is totally dependent on the voluntary help that is given by the Group.

This small band of volunteers needs more help to continue in the good work it has already started. If you think you might be interested in helping or just want to want to talk to someone to find out more, then please contact Projects 4 Poynton:
