Poynton Town Council Vacancies and Voluntary Work

If you are interested in volunteering opportunities, other than those listed below, please contact Sharon Dukes, Communities Co-ordinator, on 01625 872238. We particularly welcome interest from male volunteers to help make sure we have a gender balance on the volunteer team. You are welcome to volunteer for two or four hours, weekly or fortnightly, depending on your availability. Why not visit a session to find out more.

Make a real difference and have a rewarding experience by volunteering with one of the groups that Poynton Town Council offers its older residents.

NB Details of the first four volunteering opportunities below can be downloaded and printed as a PDF here.

Wednesday Lunch Club (Wednesday 10am – 2pm) - fortnightly volunteer opportunities

Wednesday Lunch Club at Poynton Civic Hall photoThe weekly lunch club provides a social group for older people who are frail and/ or have some memory problems. The small group benefits from the friendly environment and activities.

We are looking for volunteers who can encourage members to get involved with playing games, doing quizzes, singing-along etc and who will prepare tea and coffee. The group meets from 10am to 2pm. There is a volunteer rota so we are looking for new volunteers to help each fortnight. You are welcome to volunteer with a friend, and you don’t need any previous experience.

Please contact Sharon Duke on sharon.duke@poyntontowncouncil.gov.uk or 01625 872238 for an informal discussion.

More details on the Wednesday Lunch Club can be found on the Adult Health and Wellbeing page.

Time out café (Friday 2pm – 4pm)

Time Out Cafe imageTime Out Café provides a guaranteed warm and friendly welcome, refreshments and a chat. Our volunteers make available a cup of tea and biscuits with a game of bingo or colouring activity and the opportunity to meet other people. Occasionally our local PCSO’s drop-in to say hello, and it’s an opportunity to find out about other services and groups in the area.

We are looking for volunteers who can serve refreshments and provide a friendly face.

All the volunteer opportunities are available on a rota basis, so any time you can offer would be welcomed. For more information and no obligation chat, please contact Sharon Duke, Communities Co-ordinator on 01625 872238, for an informal, no obligation chat.

More details about the Time out café can be found on the Adult Health and Wellbeing page.

Additional Volunteering Opportunity

Pride in Poynton - Poynton Pick and Tidy Group

Show ‘Pride in Poynton’ by making a real difference to the presentation of your local neighbourhood.

Love Where We Live Civic Pride logoPoynton Town Council organise a twice-yearly working day event on the Inclines, which involves clearing non-native vegetation and general tidying up. We also have a small team of volunteer litter pickers, ‘Poynton Pickers’, who regularly pick litter from areas in Poynton.

We’re looking to build upon this and encourage residents and businesses to join the ‘Poynton Pick and Tidy Group’ improving the presentation of public areas in Poynton.

If you would like to find out more, enjoy light gardening and would be happy to get involved, please contact Sharon Duke, Communities Co-ordinator on 01625 872238, for an informal, no obligation chat.
